Antigua and My Life Before by Marcela Serrano

4.0

This is the story of the lifelong friendship of two Chilean women - Violeta and Josepha, both artists. The Antigua in the title is the small city in Guatemala, where the story ends.It is the story of how past and future generations in our families are with us and call to us. It is easy to see why Violeta is drawn to Mexico and Central America, with their tropical climates and color. The book, like Violeta's life, has two halves. The first half in Chile is emotionally heavy, at times dark, and sad. The second half, in Antigua, is a complete contrast as it is full of hope and color.
