Each character feels like an old friend, and Bechdel uses this familiarity to weave social commentary into the fabric of everyday life, asking you to laugh and reflect simultaneously alongside the characters. Reading this in 2023 gave me so many moments of pause—not much has changed but we've still got one another and that matters.
I'll carry these dykes with me wherever I go. Long live Mo, Lois, Ginger, Sparrow, Clarice, Toni, and Sydney!
