The Fates Divide by Veronica Roth
4.0
I liked this one way more than the first in the series! The plot was much more gripping than the first novel. I still loved the characters and I really enjoyed having Cisi and Eijeh as additional narrators -- but I would have loved to hear more from Eijeh. I also still really enjoyed each character's currentgift, and I think I understood them and the current better in this novel.
The only thing I really didn't like that also bothered me in the first novel was the names of some of the characters and places; they confused me and I couldn't keep the characters and planets straight. It didn't help that all of the characters had very unique, foreign names and that some of them were similar, but I guess you find that in a lot of high fantasy novels. Even though I had this problem, it didn't really affect my understanding of the story and it didn't keep me from liking it.
I also thought the audiobook version of this novel was better than the first, but I still enjoyed the print version more than the audio.
If you read the first one and you're on the fence on reading this second book, read it. I think you'll like it.
Side note:
I was mindlessly scrolling Facebook and I came across this picture, and I couldn't help but noticing how similar the phrases for Gryffindor and Slytherin were to the tag line on the top of the cover of this book:

For comparison, here's the book cover:

So basically, Akos is a Gryffindor and Cyra is a Slytherin. That seems eerily accurate to me and this mash-up is making me nerdy happy.
