Daphne's life falls apart when her fiancé dumps her for his childhood best friend. Stuck in a town that was supposed to be her new beginning, she ends up moving in with Miles - aka the ex of the woman her fiancé left her for. I really liked the characters in this one. They felt messy and real in a good way, they were flawed but honest, which made it easy to root for them. Emily Henry does a great job showing the emotional baggage people carry, and that added some nice depth. The story was also a different spin on the fake dating trope. It didn't follow the typical beats, which kept things interesting. However, the actual fake dating? Barely lasted two scenes meaning the book lacked that chaos and tension. Also, for a slow burn, it quite burn slowly enough. The pacing was off for me, and it felt like things moved along before all the tension has a chance to build up properly. Overall, it was a solid, enjoyable read with great characters and fresh twists, but I wish the central romance had taken its time a bit more. I would recommend this to any fan of character-driven romances, but other Emily Henry books would be higher on my recommended list.
