The Sellout by Paul Beatty

Did not finish book. Stopped at 0%.
DNF. I was lent this book by a friend who thought I might like it, struggled along until I got to the end of the first part, and gave up. I found it grotesque without being at all amusing. I suspect that a lot of the parodic bits didn't land because I'm not American and don't know enough about the things they're caricaturing, although there was one bit that definitely didn't land because I *did* know enough about the thing being caricatured that I couldn't concentrate on whatever point Beatty was trying to make because my brain was busy shouting about how it had been distorted to the point that it had lost any meaningful connection to the original.
