The Expatriates by Janice Y.K. Lee

emotional sad medium-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated
  • Flaws of characters a main focus? Yes

I picked this up after watching the first couple of episodes of the adaptation, Expats. I liked it (but I’m not sure how much it’ll linger). It’s a bit character study/interior novel that digs into topics of motherhood, loss of a child, grief, and guilt.
