The Brightest Light of Sunshine by Lisina Coney

2.0

i... don't really know how to feel.

first of all, despite grace being 22 and cal being 30, everything about this book gave very much high school vibes. from the way the friend group behaved to the conversations and dialogues... also, not even going to go into how weird their age gap was made out to be. i feel like, as an author, your priority when writing an age-gap romance is to NEVER make it weird and i feel like in this book, it was sort of the purpose of it which weirded me out multiple times.

i always like to give everyone their flowers so i'm not going to waste a review on just pointing out what i didn't like but:
- i wish we saw more of the growing and blossoming of grace and cal's friendship, such as more milestones or pivotal moments between them that brought them closer and showed the depth of their relationship because it led to it feeling hollow at times.
- i could've used more descriptions, of anything really... i struggled to follow certain scenes at times because they weren't descriptive at all.
- i'm already not a fan of third-act breakups and i really don't know how to feel about this one. like i get it... but it also felt incredibly unnecessary.
- i wish we got to see more of the connection and relationship between grace and maddie growing because it ended up feeling... yup you guessed it, hollow.
- the plot ended up solving itself super quickly in a single chapter when the book could've used at least 200 more pages for it to actually make sense and be cohesive.

overall, it felt like something was missing and felt quite empty and inconsistent at times. which upsets me because the story had so much potential. the story itself is so beautiful, i just wish it would've been executed differently.

however, i did enjoy the detail of the different parts/sections of the book. i thought i was a really interesting little detail.
