Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card
5.0
I can't decide if I really liked this book or if I just liked the sci-fi aspects of it.
The Battle School was amazing and I loved the depiction of the anti-gravity games. That was exciting to think about and experience through Ender's eyes. The writing of those scenes was incredible. I love Ender. I loved the psychology involved in the story. The game he played on his desk was a really smart and intriguing way to explore Ender's mind. I really felt connected to him during his time at Battle School.
However, many other parts of the book felt SO rushed. Entire chunks of the story were sped through with narration that could have been expanded and given dialogue. It was hard to connect to Ender and the other characters during these scenes when I was just being told a story as opposed to be drawn in and experiencing the story. It felt like a completely different writing style from the Battle School scenes. The only thing that kept me reading was wanting more of Ender's story.
I do plan to read the rest of the series, as I have heard good things. I'm hoping to be pleasantly surprised because I really love the idea behind Ender's story, as well as Ender's character.
