At First Sight by Nicholas Sparks

okay so i'd had this marked as read on here when i was pretty sure i'd only read the first one, now i'm definitely sure i hadn't read it before. not that it mattered, because i was checking the number of pages/chapters before i started reading and saw the words "keeping lexie alive in his memory" so i knew what was coming from the beginning. like i said in my review for true believer i didn't care for the story, but god forbid he write a second part to a story and give them a happy ending skjdfks i KNEW she was gonna die in childbirth i was like that has to be how he's gonna do it i didn't even feel as sad as i do in some books just because i cared so little about this relationship bc it was soooo ridiculous

the setup with the prologue was so unnecessary like it would've been better to just jump right in rather than being like five years in the future and "he always lets the memories come" or whatever it was just a cringe-y the way that was written, i think he did the same thing with a walk to remember? it just didn't work for me

anyway let me complain about a couple dumb things nicholas wrote. like, re: the frequency of sex, "women sometimes wanted, men always needed" likes jesus chriiiiiist nicholas you are so fucking annoying, women can want sex just as much as men AND it's not a fucking need that's how people excuse rape you freak

THEN during the birth "not even born yet and already mastering the skill of being fashionably late. even had he not been told beforehand, he would have definitely made the assumption that he was having a girl." THIS from the guy who put gel and mousse in his hair and trimmed his nails while his wife was waiting for him to take her to the hospital sdkjfs

also i feel like yes, it made sense to end where the book did before the epilogue, but i thought maybe the epilogue would address some things. rodney and rachel?? okay i figure it's fine for them to get engaged after a few months (or however long) because unlike jeremy and lexie, they've known each other since childhood. but their relationship was clearly VERY tense at the start, to the point that rachel took off to new york without telling anyone, and obvs they're v minor characters but we didn't get a look into how it evolved, so maybe it got better, but it seems early to get engaged when rodney probably isn't quite over lexie or at the very least rachel isn't sure if he is. and they're not mentioned later so like? did they end up getting married? did things get better? tbf i didn't like rodney either he gave me bad vibes but. follow through on your storylines nicholas!! and what about alvin?? like what he did was HORRIBLE and yeah jeremy said he never wanted to see him again, but i figured he'd try to make things right either before or after lexie died but there was just nothing? i just feel like there's quite a bit unresolved
