Maybe a 5-⭐️? Yeah, giving it 5…
I don’t know how to classify this type of book. On paper (synopsis), it comes off as something I should avoid, but {exhales loudly}, THE WRITING IS ON POINTE! The dialogue is fantastic.
I honestly didn’t think I was going to like this because it’s classified as Rooney-esque. I have not read Rooney, in fact, I have been avoiding her books because they’re all about relationships, which I hate. I can’t help but immediately think, over-hyped trite. But now my curiosity is peaked and I will have to explore more work like this. I’m going to label this as “anti-romantic,” but it’s more like “relationship resentment” and “female thoughts” mixed with lack of mental wellness… and damn great writing!
I listened to this on audio, but I’m starting a re-read of the physical book. #1: Lydia Wilson is a treasure narrator; #2: I’ve never heard of the authors/books blurbed on the back cover… will be seeking out their works now! #3: If you liked Sorrow And Bliss I recommend this to you.
