For the most part, I particularly enjoyed the world building in Gameboard of the Gods. I did find the world in the Age of X similar to those in the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series, but that's the point of literary tropes, no?
What bothered me about this new world didn't come up until the end, when someone mentions that humans have pushed the gods away, and the gods are pushing back. To me, that screams mythology, not religion, but the whole new world reconfigures itself to remove religion, not mythology. For whatever reason, that left me more confused than the exposition.
Looking forward to spending more time in this world.
