Darius the Great Is Not Okay
by Adib Khorram
Excellent, ultimately uplifting book that covers many serious topics in a non-depressing way. Can you be lonely for someone you've never met? Can you be distanced from someone who lives in the same house as you do? Darius has never been to his mother's home in Iran, never met his maternal grandparents in person, never had a true friend. He and his father have a strained, tense relationship-both take medication for depression, both enjoy Star Trek, but the similarities seem to end there. When his grandfather becomes ill, the family travels to Iran to meet their Persian relatives and learn more about their heritage. Darius meets Sohrab, a neighbor boy, along with his own grandparents and his life is changed forever.
