The Island
by Adrian McKinty
Fast paced and action packed from the very start, I was sucked into this story. I love the intricacies of small town / rural worlds, and it really ramped up the horror here. Because this was straight up horror at times, and it was a welcome surprise.
The survival instincts, and revenge tactics were well developed. Watching these characters pushed to their max, and the "war" play out between both sides of the island was really interesting. All the characters (except Tom) were likable, and I enjoyed their POVs. I'd say it was a strong 4-5 stars up until the last few chapters. I just hate super convenient plot points like I also think the storyline surrounding Tom and his ex-wife was somewhat unnecessary, and it didn't serve the plot much for me either.
Overall a solid 3.5 rounded up.

Him letting his ex-wife die, and being a bit of an arsehole, didn't serve any purpose that I can see ? Unless we're meant to relish the fact that he himself is dead.Overall a solid 3.5 rounded up.
