The Ghost Brigades
by John Scalzi
Ohhhh, I like this one.
I like some of the discussions/questions about some of the things in this book. Like, does a body have a right when there is no consciousness in it? What makes a race intelligent/have a "soul"? The thing about being able to make a choice. And some more things.
I also like the plot/story. I like the begining when you (at least I did) assume that you see the story enfold from a human POV but then it turns out that you are in the alien POV and the humans are the "aggressors". I like it when we switch to Jared and the whole thing about consciousness and personality starts. ♥ I also like little things like the Gamerans. All these things are why I love Science Fiction. ♥
I love Jared. I love discovering the world through his eyes and have all these questions asked/hinted at/discussed with the knowledge that he is a clone and the only reason he is alive is so that the consciousness of a traitor can be asked/interrogated. And the transfer failed. And now we have this young man trying to live his own life and then the consciousness of the traitor comes through. I really, really like this premise and how it was handled. Of course, the end fucking broke my heart. Why are always the characters I love the most dying? Why?
Jane? I really like her and I hope we get to see more of her in the next books (and don't you dare to kill her off, John Scalzi!).
I also like that some of my questions from the first book have been answered and no, I don't want to have a BrainPal of my own anymore.
All in all a good and thought provoking book and I'm looking forward to the next part.
