This book to my disappointment is no better than the first but is in fact worse. The same sophomoric writing style is used and it doesn’t even fit in with her other series. So either she wrote this a long time ago and now that she is a popular writer they decided to publish it without any changes or it was her idea but someone else wrote the actual book. I don’t know what is going on but they really need to get it together.
Sarielle is one of the dumbest heroine’s I have ever read. Garreth has conquered her city and she has no idea if he is friend or foe, she she initially refuses to give him information and then less than two minutes later tells him all her weaknesses. And yes I mean literally two minutes pass before she tells her weaknesses unsolicited. There was no reason for that other than the writer was to lazy to make Garreth work to learn about her.
Garreth is also and idiot. He conquers a city and expects it to immediately bend to his will socially and politically. That naiveté or ignorance might have been plausible if he hadn’t been a conquerer before he was cursed, and you could say he was rusty except in between this book and the one prior he and his brother had conquered other cities. Also for some reason Dethan was a douche. He kept insisting that Garreth and Sarielle be apart because he was “worried” about his brother. Even though he married and still fought for his god. Bethan was condescending and conniving throughout the entire book. It was a forced conflict and it made a character do a complete 180 unnecessarily.
I don’t think I’ll be reading the next book in this series. Not only is the writing bad, but the plots are weak. I wasn’t rooting for a HEA because both leads were idiots.
