Corsana: The Phalanx Syndicate by Charles Wellington II
4.0
Thank you, Charles, for sending me your book (in PDF format) in exchange for an honest review.
It’s been dubbed as “The magical qualities of Harry Potter meet the adventure styles of Lord of the Rings combining the combat prowess of the 300” and it certainly lives up to the hype!
The world of Corsana is both tantalisingly familiar and hauntingly exotic at the same time! The world building is first class in this series: the descriptive narrative creates an almost map-like effect in my mind and I can almost feel myself walking around.
In book 1, The Phalanx Syndicate, we meet a few highly likeable characters, and, after a few chapters, you’d probably love them already; each one unique and well written. Background stories are solid for each character, without feeling rushed or intangible, which adds a depth to the personalities of each character, thereby giving them life!
Not far into the book, I got the distinct feeling that the author must be an avid D & D (Dungeons & Dragons) enthusiast because, to me, it sounded like the Dungeon Master setting the scene for the forthcoming campaign – my suspicions were confirmed a little later in the book, though.
The only thing I didn’t like, and maybe it’s because I am totally pedantic, was the grammar – sometimes a complete lack, sometimes too much, but it wasn't overwhelming – which confused me a little but eventually, it just faded into the voice of the book became almost natural.
This book is an awesome read, for both fans of fantasy and first timers! I really enjoyed this book and simply cannot wait for book 2: Myths And Legends.
