I absolutely adored Kitchen Confidential and had high hopes with this one. I love the way Anthony Bourdain writes and tells his stories. If you're going to read his books, I highly recommend jumping on his audiobooks. It is sad hearing him talking in the present tense, knowing he's no longer alive. (And prepare to be a little extra sad when he talks about his daughter and how much he adores her.) But he's such a joy to listen to.
I really wanted to like this book more than I did, but I think Kitchen Confidential set the bar high for me. This one is a bit all over the place. And while I loved hearing Bourdain talk about food and getting into the restaurant industry, it was so hard to get invested with his chapters talking about certain celebrity chefs. He REALLY gets into it in typical Anthony Bourdain fashion, but I honestly didn't really care about hearing about celebrity chefs and his thoughts about them. So the tail end really lost me there, but overall it was still a good listen.
