One of the few horror novels that has actually scared me. At one point, I got out of bed to check the locks on my doors, including my balcony and the windows, never mind that I live in a high rise. Got back into bed only to decide the open closet door was also too scary. Definitely a bit of a slow burn, but great atmosphere, and quick prose. Ending got perhaps a little action heavy and/or rushed, but not bad enough to ruin what was otherwise a phenomenal book.
On the other hand, Nevill’s idea of an Arizona accent and how a person from the American southwest would speak, on the other hand, was atrocious. Those passages are thankfully short, else they’d utterly ruin the book.
