Donut Fall in Love by Jackie Lau

DNF after 100 pages

I've enjoyed a lot of Jackie Lau's category-length contemporary romances, but this first full length trade paperback with Berkely/Jove fell flat for me. Lots of telling, two characters without much personality and no romantic spark, and not much in the way of goal/motivation/conflict for either character. And despite being packaged to look like a rom com, the story has next no humor. There are lots of more interesting baking contest romcoms out there than this one. And lots of better Jackie Lau contemporary romances out there; try any of the Cider Bar Sisters or Baldwin Village books for a far more entertaining read.

Kudos for discussions of Asian rep in tv/films, and for exploring racism/trolling on social media.
