I have to say this book took a really long while for me to finally enjoy. Even after the first half i still didn't really feel anything, not that characters have to be loveable or that the plot needs to be packed to have me hooked but i just wasn't given enough reason to care. Especially for the choices the characters made in this book.
But i will say, the way the author gets so descriptive with details to set a more atmospheric environment, or sometimes to emphasize the emotions certain items give the characters, they were beautiful. Loved them. And when i finally got there, i really enjoyed reading this up until its last page. Reading the characters living their life with all their flaws, living a draining, suffocating life, feeling forever tense and fearful, and me starting to go along with it rather than trying too hard to understand. And by the end, i actually did find out that i cared for them, in a weird way. Like, i found the pair annoying, but i only wanted them to get like, a slap on the wrist and a wine pour from the top of their head, when they end up with something so horrendous instead you can't help but feel for them.
