Persépolis by Marjane Satrapi

emotional reflective medium-paced

5.0

Persepolis, a series of autobiographical comics by Marjane Satrapi, narrates her childhood and adulthood in Iran during and after the Islamic Revolution.

This graphic novel is an example of the difficulties and processes that Iranians have had to go through. I enjoyed reading her reflection on being a woman in these times and the family relationships within it. I must admit that I have very little knowledge of Iranian history and it was exciting to learn through this.

Without a doubt, this is an outstanding book. I enjoyed it.

CW: Graphic [Death, Violence, War] Moderate [Torture, Suicide attempt, Drug use] Minor [Rape, Homophobia]
