The Invocations
by Krystal Sutherland
"Even the devil does not trust men to honor a bargain, so it does not deal with them. It offers power only to women."
Krystal Sutherland, you have been promoted to one of my favorite authors. I'm not a normal fan of fantasy, but this sub-genre of fantasy horror is delightful.
The Invocations follows three women: one cursed with a demon attached, one trying to revive her dead sister, and the witch that might be able to help them -- if only she can figure out who is killing all her previous clients.
The characters are so wonky and fun and lovable despite their flaws. The romance was a little off but I love my sapphics, so I didn't really mind.
The plot!! Banger after banger, twist after twist. It was so well-written and you could tell it was, like, a labor of love. The writing is fantastic and it gave me dopamine just reading it. It was so magical.
While I wish the book pulled me in a bit more, this was still a solid book! Just couldn't feel much for the characters or emotional connection.
