I was captivated by R. F. Kuang's intense story about an obsessed and jealous writer trying to break into and hold her place at the top of the publishing world no matter what the cost. Although, I usually avoid novels with main character who seem to have no redeeming qualities, Kuang's writing (and Helen Laser's narration) grabbed and kept my attention while exposing the insidious waters of the publishing world.
