"Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds."
The first time I've seen The Devils, its iconic red skulls caught my eyes immediately; instantly, it gave an impression of horror, bloody and everything bad. I'd say I was a bit intimated by the number of the page (565 pages sure is chunky) but alas, I'm just going to get through it. The red skull were the one caught my attention but its the inside, the maps, images and Brother Diaz's opening scene, which became the reason I stay.
Character-wise, I know it's not easy when you have multiple characters inside your story; everyone have their own story to tell and if the author couldn't manage to make it work, then it would have an negative impact on the plot BUT I should say that Joe Abercrombie's an exception. From Brother Diaz, Alex, Jacob, Baptiste (rest in peace darling), Sunny, Vigga (girl I knew you didn't mean what you did), Balthazar, and Baron Rikard; all of them were build so amazingly structured as a character and you couldn't help but to love them with all of your heart and I couldn't wait to read book #2 (please please let them reunite)
The Devils had put my jaw on the motherfuckin' floor page by page, chapter by chapter, conversation after conversation; it gagged me so much (Vigga hunty, you and your extraordinary personality) until it got me out of my reading slump.
I didn't have any other words except THIS BOOK IS FREAKIN' COOL!
