”This was a terrible plan. He loved it.”
At risk of sounding like a broken record, I really love me a bonafide Virgo™ character. As a Ravenclaw with two virgo placements in my big three, how can I not appreciate characters who are consistently thorough and intentional in their endeavors?
“But Rai,” said no one. “Why did you give a book starring not one, but two such characters in leading roles little more than 3 stars?”
Inspired question, my nonexistent friend. That would be because virgo’s make for notoriously difficult character-driven stories. Which shouldn’t be a problem, given that this is a plot-driven story.
Scratch that.
APOSAS aspires to be a plot-driven story. In reality, it’s a thought-driven story. We spend a lot of time meandering from chapter to chapter, thinking about interesting developments that may or may not happen… eventually.
(For what it’s worth, when eventually does arrive, it doesn’t disappoint)
Really, this series’ greatest flaw is its pacing. Based on these first 2 books, I’m having a really hard time seeing why this wasn’t a trilogy.
