This series continues to be awesome.
Volume 8 continues from the Jack the Ripper storyline that has been building for a while. William, ever the genius, concocts a scheme that not only kills those responsible for murdering women but also sets up Scotland Yard. He is aware of the corruption within and sends their mole in to gather information to pass it on to Bonde, who is an expert at getting into locked spaces. Sherlock is onto their plan and aware that The Lord of Crime is sending him a message with his actions. Sherlock goes along with this, interested in what his plan and endgame is.
Patterson and Bonde, working within Scotland Yard, can get Lestrade to understand the corruption within the organization. Just as they expected, Lestrade consults Holmes and Watson on the matter, bringing them to Scotland Yard to investigate and interrogate the man responsible for the fake Jack the Ripper suspect. A struggle ensues, and Bonde and Patterson are able to grab the ledger and pass it on to Lestrade, thus ensuring he will be thinking the way they want. With the knowledge Lestrade, Holmes, and Watson have, they are able to oust the current Chief Inspector, and thus, Patterson is put in charge, just as William wanted.
Sherlock goes to the University that William works for, taking an exam William sets out as an excuse to speak with him and get more insight. The two play a beautiful game of cat and mouse through their speech over lunch, and they are such stars in this book. I love their interactions and the way they speak to one another. They have such chemistry on paper, and Sherlock telling William that he would die to take down the Lord of Crime was an awesome moment. This series rules. Also, Que and Moneypenny are my favorites, and I hope we get more of their characters in future volumes.
