I came across the Awaken Online series accidentally about a year or so ago. I was ranting about Ready Player One (I honestly hated that one) when a friend at the time recommended the series to me.

Not sure what to expect, I bought the book and started reading it. Before I knew it, I was already three chapters in. The story is good. The protagonist (Jason) is interesting. The pacing is great.

I really appreciated that it didn't dwell too much about what the future is like or relied on 'nostalgia'. The book simply focused on telling a great story about a futuristic MMO. I never felt bored.

As a game developer and a gamer myself, this book captured the chaotic, exciting, and fun nature of gaming and delivered a wonderful story with it. I would love to see AO happen (maybe with less influence from Alfred *wink wink*)

This is a wonderful start for a great series. I will be rereading the other books over the next few weeks.

I highly recommend the series!
