“‘It took us that long to realize that a purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved.’” hi so i am unwell

ok now that i’ve sat with this more: if I were to give a wholly objective rating, it’d probably be closer to the 4.5/4.75 range (still a very good book, just subject to some issues, some of which are more “of the time period” than “kurt vonnegut issues specifically”). however i am too obsessed with whatever the fuck these characters have going on. beatrice rumfoord is an absolute legend (and my favorite character in the whole book as slight as her role is in comparison to malachi’s); malachi constant is, though often not necessarily likable, deeply compelling; winston niles rumfoord is perhaps one of the most infuriating characters i’ve ever read about, but in a way that is so very interesting; salo is my second favorite character, and for all his presence is brief, it is by no means small. the themes of free will (and whether or not it really exists), religion, capitalism, and human connection are all incredibly profound, and make for an absolutely fantastic read. i truly look forward to rereading it one day.
