Post-Traumatic by Chantal V. Johnson
4.0
TW/ Sexual assault, sexual abuse, rape, sexual abuse against children, eating disorder/body image talk and discussion including bulimia and anorexia, PTSD.
Post-Traumatic follows Vivian, a lawyer for a psychiatric hospital in New York City. After a tumultuous upbringing leading to years of emotional and sexual abuse, Vivian makes the decision to estrange herself from her family after a particularly terrible family reunion.
Chantal V. Johnson comes out of the gate swinging with this stunning debut novel. Post-Traumatic explores how messy and complicated it is to be a Black woman in the United States and a survivor of sexual trauma. Vivian is a complex and broken character and, as a result, can't help but make mistakes and errors throughout her healing. Vivian's character development is one of the best I have read in a very long time, and I was sad to close the book.
