Hawkeye: Kate Bishop Vol. 2: Masks by Kelly Thompson

3.0

3.5 stars.

The Kate Bishop issues continue to be entertaining, but the (slight) problem is that they're so obviously indebted to the Matt Fraction/David Aja/Ramon Perez run that they sort of don't have their own voice. Kelly Thompson's dialogue is all quasi-Fraction snark (which I get since this version of Kate Bishop grew out of Fraction's run) and the artwork by Leonardo Romero and Michael Walsh is a rougher take on Aja/Perez. It's never not fun, but it also feels a little like a movie sequel that tries – and doesn't quite succeed – to recapture the original's magic.
