The Devouring Gray
by C.L. Herman
I read the Devouring Gray on a cruise, and on the day that I read it the sea was slowly being covered with a creeping fog, and a swift mist that lay right over the water. In short, it was absolute perfection. The Devouring Gray is an ambitious, deep dive into a town's lore and it is the town itself that is the best character in the book. The history of the town runs deep, and tangled up in its horrifying lore a group of troubled teens is hoping to either make their mark or disappear. Herman does a great job with atmosphere - from the decaying red stone houses to their bland school, each description feels just right. This is a book that would be absolutely adored by teens who love Riverdale and Sabrina. I hope they find it.
