This series would have been better as a duology or even a standalone. When I was explaining the plot of this book to my friend, I described it as a Shrek and romcom mashup and after finishing the trilogy, I stand by my description. I'm surprised I pushed through despite wanting to DNF a billion times. It drags on and on and on. I skimmed a majority of the second half.
