While the adventures continue to be entertaining, the problem with this book is the introduction of romantic plotlines.

There are no appealing male personalities in these books - not a single male character with more than 10 lines of dialogue. When the heroine finds any of them attractive, it reads like an incongruous flaw in her otherwise rational character. Up until this book her rationality prevailed and she kept them all at a more or less reasonable distance.

In this book the authors try to sell one of these relationships as an epic love and that just didn't work for me, because I didn't see anything love-adjacent there. On his part it's possessive protectiveness mixed with self delusion. On hers - mostly irrational attraction and gratitude for protection services and devotion. This might be enough for starting a new relationship (although still not advisable for anyone given the man in question, but people make stupid decisions all the time), but not enough for the life-altering space- and time-transcending love the authors tried to sell it as.
