The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo

4.0

This took me months to finish! Because I'm slow when it comes to historical fiction but also because it was a book I wanted to savor since I knew I was going to love it. It's everything I want when it comes to historical fiction that involves magical elements (in this case mythological) as well as cultural elements that are both fascinating but also terrifying, i.e. ghost marriage.

The Ghost Bride is a coming-of-age story, so don't expect it to be objectively scary or strictly fantasy. It's more Li Lan finding who she wants to be in life when she always thought something else was what she wanted, going on an adventure in the Plains of the Dead to find answers for what might be a murder.
