Amor Actually by Mia Sosa, Mackenzie Walton

This is the perfect sweet and spice Love, Actually retelling. I am someone who (even though I know it has faults today) loves Love, Actually. This made me super excited to pick up this anthology of Latinx stories that act as a retelling of the film but with a Latinx culture spin and with relationships of all types. The stories also fix all the problematic things about the movie when viewed today, it really brings the storyline of the film into 2021/2022.

Every type of couple is represented in this anthology as each story puts a spin on a different relationship from the movie and then all coming together at the end for a big Nochebuena celebration. Straight, gay, bi, lesbian, poly, they are all represented in the stories which is beautiful to see alongside the representation of Latinx voices telling Latinx stories of culture and celebration. These stories are 100% Latinx stories and being in the cultures, foods, languages, and customs of various Hispanic countries.

The spice level varies between stories but there are many steamy moments throughout.

Yes, this is technically a holiday story, but much like the movie that it draws it’s inspiration from it can definitely be read at any time of the year.
