Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler

5.0

Read the trigger warnings b4 picking it up, but I haven’t read a science fiction I read this much before.

It’s amazing to me how much we’ve been missing out on by have Black Stories & Authors (intentionally) excluded from this genre and writing overall.

I also think this book being set in 2024-2027 (I believe) is wild to think about. This dystopian-future Butler thought of in 1993 is unnerving to think about with it now being less than 2 years away.

Parable of the Sower is a must-read, I finished the story in 1 day and used the second day to read the author’s notes, discussion guide & note in the edition I have. This was also a great introduction to Octavia E. Butler’s work. May she rest in power, I have become a major fan.

This was also my second time reading thru this book, the first time I’ve picked it up since I was a teenager, and I can definitely appreciate it a lot more now. Will pick it up in another several years & update y’all then

*the book is roughly 350 pages*
