frogggirl2 's review for:
The Sandman
by Neil Gaiman, Dirk Maggs
This is an audio play (think war of the worlds), not an audiobook. I don't think I really enjoy hearing the stage directions, random sound effects and musical cues. That being said, the voice acting is phenomenal - particularly James McAvoy as Dream. There is a lot of graphic violence, things like necrophilia, rape, and more which I wasn't really comfortable with and didn't rest easy with me. As someone who's not familiar with DC lore, the longer-form pieces that reference all sort of random characters and plots from other series mean nothing to me and weren't enjoyable. The stand-alone single stories are quite good (except for the dumb cat one which felt like cat fanfiction) and that was where this really shines. If they make more of this series with this cast, I would definitely consider listening on.
