The Broken Girls
by Simone St. James
This was a great ghost story. This story revolves around a eerie boarding school for troubled girls that was shut down, and a journalist who experienced a tragedy linked to that school. The timelines alternate from 1950 to 2014 and there are multiple POVs. This revolved around two murder mysteries and there’s also a compelling ghost story. This sounds like it would be too much, but I felt like all of these elements worked.
All of the characters and the mysteries going on kept me intrigued and invested. However, the reveals were pretty underwhelming and I wasn’t blown away. This was decent overall, and even though I didn’t love it I do still recommend it.
I listened to this primarily on audio and the narrator did a good job, but this would have benefitted from multiple narrators with the shifting POVs (clearly I’ve just been spoiled by that in audiobooks recently).
