This book had some cool world-building and great relationships between characters. But it also had the characters being incredibly passive for 2/3 of the book. It felt like they rarely were making their own decisions, and most of the information they got was just sold to them and not something they figured out. Luckily, while the plot (especially the mystery elements) didn't do much for me, I was interested enough in the characters and the ways they were connected to power through and ultimately enjoy the book.
