Endless Knight by Kresley Cole

2.0

Well, this is a weird one. A very promising world and story that are completely let down by a weak heroine and a terrible love triangle. In all honesty, both of these guys seem like poor options for Evie, our fickle, idiot of a heroine. I feel confident that if her friend Mel had survived she'd have the same advice for Evie that I do- get rid of both the guys, take your dog/wolf and live your life. There are better, less controlling men out there, I promise.

Evie has no time for that advice though. When the book begins, Evie decides to embrace her powers and then tries to make things work with Jack who is desperate to get in her pants and marry her. Even though they're 16, Evie seems cool with this plan. She
Spoiler has sex for the first time with Jack, and then a few hours later sees how hot Death is and starts lusting for him.

Now, I'm all about a strong heroine with strong emotions, and a girl can want who she wants, but Evie seems wishy washy and the whole I've gotta seduce Death to save the world thing is dumb and boring and a bit of a head scratcher. She starts to fall for Death real fast but there's not much to him that seems like it would be attractive. Maybe she's just happy to have a home with running water and bread.

Anyway, she and Death have a very predictable past relationship that is finally revealed here and all I could think was that I wished we were spending time with the murderous version of Evie who tried to kill Death off their first time around. That Evie seems like a woman who gets shit done.

Evie in this book is a ballet dancing, Italian art lover (I don't remember her being a dancer in the last book, but okay) who enjoys having people stare at her ass and sexually harassing her. She has her powers stripped from her for a big chunk of the book and seems mostly okay with that. She never takes any time to try and put together what Matthew is telling her with his prognostications (I'm guessing Jack is the final, unknown Arcana but Evie can't rub two brain cells together to try and puzzle it out) and overall seems pretty useless.

The ending of the book is gross, immediately wiping out any positive thoughts or feelings I had towards Death (there weren't many of them). But I don't really care about Jack and his possessive BS either. I kinda hope she offs them both. I'm guessing that isn't what the author hoped the reader would want for these guys but it's really the only way the series can be redeemed for me.

So yeah. Not very much with the good. I'm still gonna read the next one, though.

*sigh*
