Huckleberry Finn is a snapshot of the era in which it is set, ripe with the socially accepted racism of the times. Huck is a dimensional character, a sensitive and smart and brave boy, poorly brought up in some ways. He's a talented improviser and a habitual liar. He's curious and adventurous. Tom Sawyer enters the story near the end and is insufferable, causing a lot of trouble in the name of adventure without regard for others. I'm glad Tom Sawyer's shenanigans did not spoil the ending of the story.
