To Shape a Dragon's Breath by Moniquill Blackgoose

3.5

Anequs is the girl that every FMC aspires to be!

I really enjoyed many aspects of this book, especially the emphasis on indigenous characters and culture (obviously).

The plot was interesting, and it definitely walked the line of realism vs. fantasy. I think this was done very purposefully to emphasize that although this is a fantasy novel, the societal critiques are very much rooted in reality.

I feel like if this were shorter, it would be a 5 ⭐️ read for me but I’m definitely in the minority of those who think this! I was just starting to disengage a lot in the middle.

One other thing that I really enjoyed was how the stories that the characters told were formatted as separate chapters. This gave a very immersive feel and definitely pulled me back in.
