The Wife and the Widow by Christian White

5.0

I absolutely loved this. My one-liner on the book:

*Island mystery with a limited suspect pool and writing style that’ll leave you floored*

***SPOILERS***

When the time shifting sequence was revealed, I needed a minute or two to process what I had just read and make sense of it in my head.

All along, I made assumptions that the story was going to be a convergence of characters in the same time period rather than a past and present convergence. I’m still blown away by this portion of the writing. The writer maintained enough continuity between the chapters to make the reader anticipate a linear convergence. There was subtle clues dropped along the way that suggested the reader’s supposition might be wrong but it wasn’t blatant enough.

And then the reveal left me completely floored. There was no possible way I could’ve seen that ending coming.

***SPOILERS***

On the characters, there was nothing extravagant about them. There was nothing to hate nor like or write home much about.

Definitely going to try out other books by the author.
