Court of Shadows by C.N. Crawford reminds me a lot of the Kate Daniels series, but from the perspective of Arianna a half fae and half something she hasn't revealed yet. She's a former slave gladiator who just wants to hang with her human friend Ciara and drink whiskey. But it's illegal for Fae & all other supernaturals to be on Earth after the apocalypse of angels and demons. The Shadow Fae hunt down illegal supernaturals either execute them or exile them to another dimension. Arianna takes out 2 vampires who are going to report her and is found out. But the Shadow Fae decide to recruit her instead. She is paired with a mentor and run through trials. But she has another plan. The first book is pretty good and builds a world I can see exploring. I will definitely put the second book on my list to buy when I am done with my TBR. Arianna is a great gray character with plenty of flaws and the side characters are interesting. Tons of action too, which is a must and there is enough mystery surrounding her that I want to know more.
