A screeching orchestra of platitudes where Mister Backman throws every sentimental machination he knows at the wall, whether they make sense or not, until a few inevitably stick and hit you in the feels. a man called ove is particularly immersive because not only does it tell you about ove, but it also makes you feel like ove, rolling your eyes through every operatic episode that comprises it, but somehow, warily, begrudgingly, you keep reading it, and berudgingly, allow yourself to like it, despite it's overwhelmingly saccharine proceedings, monotonous writing, and opaque characters that come off more like sims than vivid personas with actual agency and distinct energies.
