The Last Paradise by Antonio Garrido, Simon Bruni

I can't believe this came free as an Amazon Prime member. This book certainly doesn't shy away from the sensitive issues of the period, or gloss them over. I didn't particularly like the characters in the novel's beginning, but I was intrigued by them and they wound up growing on me. I wondered if the wealthy industrialist's niece would ever start being useful, and if the protagonist would figure out his best friend was a rat. This story was full of tasty morsels, including appearances by fearsome Josef Stalin himself. There's room for a sequel or two, here, and I hope the author's already working on them and optioning a script. This should be a black and white movie with the full Hollywood treatment.
