The Gododdin: Lament for the Fallen by Gillian Clarke

4.0

This was an unexpected delight. It doesn't explain much, it is definitely repetitive, and the majority of the verse is just about how great people are at killing, but it was beautifully translated and it's utterly fascinating and there are so many striking little details about people in their laments-- this one is freckled and handsome, this one is shy with girls, this one is filled with rage--- snippets of portraits of young men who might have died some 1400 years ago (I know it's disputed). Loved this.
