Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert
2.25
lighthearted fast-paced

The way I would describe this book to someone who doesn't know Eat, Pray, Love is that the book is written like you're having a conversation with someone who's a bit under the influence of something.

I randomly picked this book up at a thrift store, thinking that this book was some random self-help and wanted to try something different. What I failed to realize is this book is geared towards "unlocking" your creative mind, which isn't a field that I'm heavily in but could parallel path this as a hobby of some sort

For me, the only useful section would be the Persistence chapter. I do agree that something should not be a passion, but to have a curious mindset that helps unlock unknowns that you may not know, which could lead you down a rabbit hole, taking you to somewhere different that you didn't think of. (A great example is when I'm having trouble with figuring out how to logically put a formula for Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel, I do something outside of my work and the answer comes to me while I'm not thinking about work.)

Honestly, I would pass on the book if it wasn't short enough and the writing style wasn't casual. Not a bad book, but I didn't think there was anything life-changing that would help me with my current journey in life.
