This Dark Endeavour by Kenneth Oppel

4.0

Kenneth Oppel has been a staple in young adult fiction since I was in elementary school. I have been reading his novels ever since I discovered Firewing, and I have to say his newest novel This Dark Endeavour is one of his best.

This novel follows Victor Frankentein as he struggles to find a cure for his ill twin brother. On his quest he discovers alchemy and decides that the Elixer of Life is the only way to save him.

I was engrossed from the very beginning, the diction was beautiful, making me feel like I was there in that time period, and his character were so vivid and strong. Victor is a character with a lot of strong qualities that make us want him to succeed, but what I loved about that character is that he is flawed. He is self centered, pig-headed and deceptive. He is real, and believable and that is why this book reads so strong for me.

The ending, for those of you that need a believable one, is fantastic. It is real, and believable, and Kenneth Oppel at his best. This is a fantastic for those lovers of Frankenstein and for boys as well as girls that have an advanced reading level. I say this because the diction in this novel is in the form of the time period, and might be harder for some to get through (but I LOVED it).

Please read this book, it was a fantastic read, and a pleasure to submerse myself in.
