This was my first time reading YA Horror as an adult and I honestly don’t know how I feel about it. Simply put, while I found the story easy to read, it kind of put me in a slump. That being said, I read it during a difficult mental health week. I also struggled getting past some of the CW as an avid animal lover.

Objectively speaking, it was well written but I found there to be some holes in the story and the pacing was just inconsistent and ultimately led to a few dead ends.

I feel like I had read this in a better frame of mind, I may have a more positive review but at the end of the day, a bunch of kids pretending to act like adults just isn’t my jam. HOWEVER, what redeemed this for me was its touch on classism, race, generational trauma and toxic family relationships. These are heavy topics but were dealt with in a way I give a lot of credit to.
